Oamaru stone with Seoul

A SLICE of Oamaru will be displayed at a New
Zealand cultural and innovation festival in Seoul
Next month.
Two large Oamaru stone sculptures by Korean
Sculptor Jin Lee will be displayed in the entrance
Area to New Zealand Unlinited.
Ms Lee created one of the sculptures, Aotearoa,
During a visit to North Otago in 2007. She worked
On the piece in a paddock beside Bob and Linda
Wilson’s Parkside Garden.
After reading an article about Ms Lee in the Otago
Daily Times. Businessman Hyun Choi, managing
Director of Southern Storm Fishing Ltd, deciede
To sponsor the shipping of the sculpture to
Seoul.
Ms Lee graduated from the Hong-Ik Fine Art
University in Seoul in 1997 with a bachelor’s
Degree in fine arts, specializing in ceramic
Sculpture.
She discovered limestone in 1998 while working
As a potter in a New Zealand gallery and her
First public show using Oamaru stone was in
Christchurch in 1999. She established her own
Stone sculpture studio in Seoul in 2007.
Ms Lee was commissioned to make award trophies
For the Australian New Zealand trade awards in
Seoul in November.
