Jin Lee is an accomplished sculptor
of beautiful New Zealand Oamaru
lime-stone and is based in Korea.
She has been recognized as a
prominent sculptor since she was
an invited by the New Zealand
Embassy to show her works at the
New Zealand Festival held in
COEX in April, 2009, representing
both Korea and New Zealand.
She occasionally uses photography
as a tool to interpret her vision
of the world she sees and to share
this vision of peace, inspiration
and dreaming with others.
This exhibition originated from
photos taken during a backpacking
trip through Southern & Northern
parts of Thailand, Bali in
Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia and
Vietnam which captured many
beautiful moments which show the
seemingly enigmatic blending of
people and nature.
The Photography exhibition will
be held from 6th of May to
16th at the elegant THROUGH
gallery located in Itaewon.
The exhibition name, “Dreaming
through South East Asia” came
about from witnessing so many
beautiful sunrises and sunsets
while searching for inspiration
along my travels. Also, I was
treated to many local stories and
dreams that were unique to each
location I visited. Through my
travels, I realized how important
it is for us to follow our dreams
through our daily lives.
I feel that these pictures have
captured some of the essence of
the dreams I experienced during
my journey.
The Artist Note
The primitive motives in my
creation come from nature and
the deep feelings that nature
gives us. They follow our normal,
human instinct to return to
nature.
The intrinsic link between
humans and nature may come in
either an abstract or a concrete
form. To me, the form of the
creation does not matter as long
as I am able to express my
inspiration in a way that can be
felt by others. Another key theme
in many of my works is feminine
lines which quite often closely
resemble the beautiful lines also
experienced in nature. The most
basic motivation in my life is
to create new images, forms and
emotions through my artwork.
I establish my identity through
the art that I create.
I like to create pieces that
will awaken hidden sensibilities
in people’s hearts.
